Course Curriculum
Week 1: Introduction to Mindfulness
Begin your journey with an overview of mindfulness, its history and context. Learn proper posture and practice your first sitting meditation with mindfulness of breath. Explore how to integrate meditation into daily life from the very beginning.
Week 2: Mindfulness of Body
Deepen your practice with mindfulness of breath and body. Experience body scan meditation and mindful walking. Discover the power of bringing awareness to simple activities like eating, transforming the ordinary into opportunities for presence.
Week 3: Working with Pleasure, Pain & Challenges
Learn to work skillfully with physical sensations, both pleasant and unpleasant. Explore meditation with sounds and address common challenges that arise in practice. Engage in mindful dialogue with fellow practitioners to share experiences and insights.
Week 4: Mindfulness of Emotion
Develop a compassionate relationship with your emotions through the R.A.I.N. practice (Recognize, Allow, Investigate, Nurture). Learn to meet difficult emotions with understanding and care, transforming your relationship with emotional experience.
Week 5: Mindfulness of Thought & Mental Processes
Befriend your mind by learning to observe thoughts without getting swept away. Explore negative thought patterns including self-judgment, negativity bias, and limiting views. Discover freedom in recognizing thoughts as mental events rather than absolute truths.
Week 6: Cultivating Kindness & Taking Practice Home
Review all instructions and experience choiceless awareness meditation. Cultivate loving-kindness for yourself and others. Create personalized rituals and strategies for sustaining your practice beyond the course, integrating mindfulness into the fabric of your daily life.

This course is perfect for anyone seeking to establish or deepen their meditation practice. Whether you're completely new to mindfulness or have some experience and want more structure and guidance, you'll find a supportive environment to explore these transformative practices.
No prior experience is necessary—just an open mind and a willingness to explore your inner landscape with curiosity and kindness.
Course Details
Duration: 6 Weeks
Session Length: 2 Hours Weekly
Format: Guided meditations, teachings, group discussions, and mindful listening exercises
Home Practice: Daily meditation practice with guidance and support
Practices Include: Sitting meditation, body scan, mindful walking, eating meditation, loving-kindness, and more
Course dates: Thursdays 6-8pm April 2nd through May 7th
Location: The Shakti Center, 30 Avenue Portola, El Granada.
